Chocolate Chip Cookies

This recipe comes from a Betty Crocker cookbook. I like it because the cookies aren't to crispy, or to soft. I like these without any chocolate chips...Rob likes extra...the kids like 3 chips in each cookie...so I don't add the chocolate chips to the dough, I add them to the dough ball when it goes on the cookie sheet. That way, everyone has their own custom cookies.

Chocolate Chip Cookies
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup dark brown sugar
1/3 cup butter, softened
1/3 cup shortening, or lard (I always get compliments when I use lard!)
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup nuts, chopped (optional)
1 to 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips

Heat oven to 375 degrees. Cream sugar, brown sugar, butter, & shortening. Add egg and vanilla. Mix well. Stir in remaining ingredients. Drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls 2" apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake until light brown, 8-10 minutes. Cool slightly before remving from cookie sheet.
Makes about 3 1/2 dozen

FREEZE
Freeze dough balls to bake later, or freeze baked cookies. See the post labeled..."Freezing Cookies" under the cookies label.
