I first ate these with Rob's family. The recipe comes from his mom. (My sister-in-law liked them so much she served them at her wedding reception.) It's one of those things that you either like, or you don't. They're yummy...in my opinion, even though the ingredients sound weird. Try them once...you can halve or double the recipe. Good for leftover ham.
Jeannine's Ham Sandwiches
1-2 cups diced ham (good use for leftovers!)
1 cup cheddar cheese, grated
1/2 cup green onions, chopped (about 5)
2 hard boiled eggs, chopped (I only use 1 egg...Rob likes them, I don't)
1/2 cup green olives, chopped
3 Tbsp mayonnaise
1/2 cup chili sauce (use a name brand...found with condiments)
8-12 hot dog buns (depending on how much filling you use in each one)
tin foil
Mix all ingredients in a bowl. Spoon mixture into hot dog buns. Wrap individually in foil. Heat in a 400 degree oven 10-15 minutes, or until cheese is melted. Serve hot.
FREEZE:I freeze the filling in a ziptop baggie. You could make a dinner packet by wrapping the buns in foil and putting the filling in a seperate baggie, then put them all into a larger ziptop together. Mark the item and date. Thaw in the fridge the day before. Then, carefully unwrap the buns, spoon the filling into the buns, rewrap in the foil..and bake as directed.
