These are my all time favorite biscuits. They use yeast, and take a little longer than regular biscuits due to a short rising time. Try them...they're similar to Grands biscuits.
Fairy Biscuits
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup warm water (divided)
2 Tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt
2 1/4 tsp yeast OR 1 packet
1 egg
3 cups flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
Melt shortening in 3/4 cup warm water. Add sugar and salt. Cool. Dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup warm water. Add slightly beaten egg to yeast. Stir into shortening mixture. Add flour and baking powder. Stir. Roll out on board and cut out. Put in a greased pan. Cover and let rise 1/2 hour. Bake at 400 degrees for 15-20 minutes.
