Pomander balls are an old fashioned treat! Not to eat, of course, but to hang in closets or chests to lend a clean fragrance to the contents. They're fun to make and give as gifts.
Pomander Balls
1 small orange or tangerine
fishing line
large needle
whole cloves
decorative ribbon
Thread the fishing line through the eye of the needle. Insert the needle in the blossom end of the fruit, sticking it completely through the fruit and drawing it out the stem end. Tie the fishing line into a loop big enough to allow the pomander to be hung up. Then, insert as many whole cloves into the orange as possible. Hang in a dry cool place, and let the orange shrivel and dry up. When the orange is througly dried out and hard, add a decorative bow at the top of the orange and hang in a closet, or put in a chest, or drawer.
