Orange Rolls....Rob's Original Family Recipe
Rob makes orange rolls every year for Christmas breakfast, along with Braunschweiger eggs, and citrus salad. And every year we can't seem to find the recipe...written on the original recipe card. So here it is, immortalized in cyberspace so we don't have the annual search and rescue session. If you'd like a richer orange roll, try my deluxe recipe found here.
Rob's Family's Original Recipe Orange Rolls
First
Mix 2 packages of yeast with ½ cup of warm water
Second
Combine: 1 cup milk
1/2 cup real butter
1/3 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
Heat this mix to lukewarm.
Then add: 2 eggs
2 tablespoons grated orange rind
1/4 cup of orange juice
add in the warm yeast
5 to 5 ½ cups of flour
Knead it and then place in a greased warm place, let it double in size. Dump and knead some more. Then cut in half and roll out. Prepare filling usually making double the recipe of filling. Then cut into rolls and let raise again in the pan before cooking.
Filling: (double this recipe)
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1 tablespoon grated orange rind
1/4 cup melted real butter
Bake in a 350 degree oven.
